West Australia gets its first jazz festival in ten years. The Perth International Jazz Festival (PIJF) is founded as an extension of the weekly Ellington Jazz Club by its co-owner, jazz pianist Graham Wood. Running May 24 to 26, US saxplayer Joe Lovano, Katie Noonan and Vince Jones will headline. There will be over 40 performances. Wood wants it, within five years, to be acclaimed as one of the best of the 35 jazz festivals held around Australia.
