For our first concert of 2023, The Grainger Wind Symphony brings you a juxtaposition of works from Gustav Mahler through to the amazing works of Joe Hisaishi.
The concert will feature Movement I of Mahler’s Symphony No.2 “Resurrection”. The first movement existed as a single-movement tone-poem called Todtenfeier (Funeral Rites) and we are performing a new transcription for wind band from Netherlands. transcribed by Jos van de Braak.
Alongside this wonderful Mahler work, will be Joe Hasaishi's Symphonic Suite “A Cinema Trilogy” Studio Ghibli Collection. This symphonic suite has three movements and The Grainger Wind Symphony will perform only movements one and two.
Other works that we will perform will include John Mackey's "Hymn to a Blue Hour", Robert Jager's "Sinfonia Nobilissima" and some of Percy Grainger's well known works.
