On Indonesian: Wearable art and hip hop is a showcase of Indonesian wearable art by Indonesian communities and diaspora and performance by visiting artist Presiden Tidore. (Juanga Culture)

Presented by 16albermarle Project Space and Balai Bahasa dan Budaya NSW (BBBI), learn about the traditions of textiles across Indonesia including batik, ulos and ikat, used for ceremony and clothing. These works and their cultural history will be showcased on the body to audiences with interpretive commentary. Following the showcase, Presiden Tidore and his crew will bring their passion for Malukan culture and their signature blend of contemporary and traditional music and dance to the stage.

In Indonesia, Presiden Tidore has a growing audience, attracted by his dynamic performances supported by performers, musicians and artists. His music draws on the traditions and history of his home island, Tidore, and calls for a greater recognition of the complex and vibrant contemporary cultures that lie away from the main centres of Indonesian culture in Java and Bali.
